What causes the need for a root canal?

People either have hard teeth or soft teeth; teeth which are soft are subject to decay more rapidly than hard teeth and the individual must take more care with dental hygiene in an effort to prevent this.

The number one cause for the need for a root canal is decay, when the tooth is compromised all the way to the pulp you will feel significant pain and sensations caused by both cold and hot liquids. Not all teeth with advanced decay will need a root canal in Fall River; many can still be repaired with a traditional filling once the decay has been removed.

If the decay has advanced too far bacteria can enter the tooth pulp causing an infection, this infection is an abscess that is on the end of the tooth root; this abscess can be seen by the dentist when he takes an X-Ray of the affected tooth.

If the abscess is left untreated there is a very good chance that the jaw bone will be affected which will be the root cause of swelling and substantial pain. This condition is dire, especially on the upper teeth, it is not unknown for the infection to reach the brain and cause significant problems. The only solution is to have the offending tooth extracted or a root canal Fall River area.

The second biggest cause of the need for a root canal is grinding of the teeth. When an individual grinds his or her teeth the tooth can fracture, this can also happen when chewing ice or other hard food such as candy. When the tooth fractures, bacteria can enter through the craze lines and get to the pulp, inflaming the nerve in the process. It will be virtually impossible to ignore the pain every time you bite on the cracked tooth. Simply switching to chewing on the side of your mouth opposite the source of pain is not curing anything; it just allows the problem to get progressively worse until the pain can no longer be ignored.

Tooth damage can take several years to manifest itself in pain. Often a person can suffer trauma to a tooth in their younger years, the trauma can do damage to the nerves that may not show up for years.
