Modern style homes are those which have been designed using architectural trends and art from the late 20th and early 21st century. These homes are very sleek and utilize functional materials that have strong geometric shapes. Once completed, modern style homes is never cluttered, both externally and internal.
Many modern homes have a pronounced and well-defined geometric shape; these designs make good use of cubes, rectangles and rakish angles. In many cases the roof, rather than being a separate component of a more traditional house, is an integral part of the structure and is often flat. There are designs which feature full glass walls and other designs which make good use of multiple small square windows.
Modern style homes normally are multi-level, these houses can be terraced which allows for the incorporation of the outdoors. Interior rooms often are sunken, raised or incorporate platforms which provide the house with exceptional depth and a true three-dimensional home with full use of the living space.
The colors that are used for these style homes are invariably muted; color is often reserved for accent only. Common base colors are white, gray, ice blue and charcoal, using these colors as background allows the interior designer to pull the attention of the viewer to well defined accents pieces such as a bright red sofa in a pure white room. When these homes are well built and furnished they are almost an art form unto themselves.
Lighting in a modern home is an extremely important part of the overall look and feel. Many homes of this nature make excellent use of industrial style lighting and standing lamps. Depending on the area of the house, there may be inset lighting casting unusual colors, perhaps purple or pink. A great deal of the lighting is from huge expanses of glass, it is the windows which are very much responsible for making these types of homes instantly recognizable.
The origins of modern style homes are somewhat debatable. Many people do agree however those ideas from such schools as Bauhaus in Germany had a lot to do with it. Modern homes make good use of industrial materials such as steel, rough cast concrete, glass and aluminum which are thought to have been influenced by industrial building design.
Inspired by the concepts of Frank Lloyd Wright, Architect Phil Kean has developed a number modern style homes. This stimulating style of architecture is available from WayCool Homes, Inc.
