The Importance of the School Chair

Over the past several years, it has become increasingly evident that students learn best when they are in a comfortable and inviting environment. Sometimes, however, with the need to stretch the amount of money that has been allocated to them, school officials do not always realize the importance of making sure that students are provided with furniture that is comfortable and ergonomically correct. Of particular importance in the educational environment is the School Chair. Students are expected to remain seated for several hours per day, every day during the school year. Chairs that are uncomfortable reduce the ability for the student to concentrate and to learn.

Of particular concern are old school chairs that are often broken or cracked. Many of these older chairs are made of wood that, over time, has splintered. Children who sit on these chairs are often uncomfortable and can even get splinters in their legs from the cracked and broken wood. Although a high quality School Chair may be a bit higher in price than those of lesser quality, in the long run this is an important investment in the effective and proper education of today’s students. Chairs that are ergonomically correct are especially valuable to the student as well as to the teachers who wish to ensure that their students are learning as much as they can each day.

When choosing a chair for the school environment, it is very important to make sure that the chair is durable and will last for many years. Some students will benefit from specially made chairs that allow for the student’s need to move around at times during the instructional period. An example of this type of therapeutic chair is one that is shaped like a ball, without a back. The student can get rid of excess energy while still remaining seated during instruction time.

It is very important for educators and administrators to periodically check the quality of the chairs that are present in each classroom. Old school chairs that are in poor condition must be removed from the classroom and replaced with chairs that are conducive to the learning environment. With a bit of thoughtful consideration for the comfort of the classroom environment, today’s students will be able to reach their learning potential. A greater awareness of the importance of a comfortable environment will result in the best learning experience possible for the students in our nation’s classrooms.
