The Different Types of Electric Motor for Wind Turbine You Can Get

by | Jun 24, 2024 | Electric Motors

Wind turbines are a strong engine powering both the renewable energy field and a lucrative new industry. However, this machine itself needs to be powered by an electric motor for wind turbine. There are several different types of motors that can power wind turbines, and here are some of them.

Pitch Motors

Pitch motors are a type of electric motor for wind turbine that control the blades of the turbine. For maximum energy generation, the blades have to be placed at a certain angle. This angle changes according to the direction of the wind. By placing the blades at the right angle, the motor ensures that they will be turned at maximum speed by the wind, thus generating the most energy possible.

Yaw Motors

Have you ever noticed that when you look at wind turbines, they change with the direction of the wind, like sunflowers? For sunflowers, this process happens thanks to a natural process, but in wind turbines, this change in direction happens due to the yaw motor. A yaw motor turns the nacelle, or the main part of the wind turbine, so that it is facing the direction of the wind. That way, the wind is always turning the blades no matter which direction it is blowing.

Pitch and Yaw Motors

Most modern wind turbine motors combine both pitch and yaw factors into one, using dedicated drivers and components. This creates maximum efficiency in the wind turbine.
