Should You Choose In-Home Care or Assisted Living for Your Loved One?

At some point in many people’s lives, there will come a time when medical assistance is needed. Typically this happens as we age, but medical assistance may also be needed if there is an accident or condition to contend with. In any case, you will likely have two main choices for your loved one who needs a little extra medical assistance. You can choose in-home care or you can choose assisted living. Palm Beach County has both available, of course, but as for which one you will choose will be up to how you feel about the following:

Cost

When it comes to cost, you will almost always find that in-home care is the more affordable option. When you choose assisted living in Palm Beach Country, for instance, not only will you be paying for the medical care that your loved one is getting, you will also be paying for the residence. With in-home care, on the other hand, you will only be paying for the specific medical and care services that your loved one needs. According to a recent survey done by MetLife, the average cost of assisted living in the US is $3000 a month vs. half of that for home care.

Independence

Though assisted living will offer a bit more independence than one would receive at a nursing home, the greatest amount of independence will certainly be found when you choose in-home care. For many people, independence is something that they will want to have for as long as they possibly can. Because so many types of medical care can be done in the home thanks to technology, this is now an option that is available to those who need medical assistance.

Level of Care

Finally, though an assisted living situation can bring a good level of care, it is often not going to be a one on one level of care that many seniors will need. Because of this, in home care will be a better option for most seniors. Though you should know your senior loved one will still be cared for at the assisted living facility, they will have one-on-one care when you choose to work with a home care agency. These are just a few of the things to consider when thinking about in-home care or assisted living.
