Safety vests are donned by those people who are working in a situation where they are liable to be struck by a passing car. All of these vests are brightly colored fluorescent, drawing the attention of motorists to a person who might otherwise not be seen. There are four categories of these vests; classes 2 and 4, public safety and economy.
Class 2 safety vests are worn by those individuals who are usually working in high traffic areas, where there are very complex backgrounds and the individual is expected to work in all weather conditions. The people who fall into these categories are those involved in law enforcement, emergency response, construction and utilities such as electric linemen. Class 2 vests are available in lime, orange and yellow and are worn on top of shirts or uniform jackets. Class 2 vests are produced in mesh, they can be adjusted; some are illuminated and flame retarding. In most cases the name of the department or the name of the company the wearer works for is printed for identity purposes.
Class 3 safety vests are worn by people who are required to work in the dark, in extreme weather or in heavy traffic. These vests fit like a shirt and are available in full, half or short sleeve designs. The design of the class 3 vest draws more attention to the wearer and like class 2 vests they too are available in orange, yellow and lime. These vests are available in mesh, rubber, jacket, sweatshirt and overcoat styles.
Public safety vests are worn by public service officials such as firefighters, paramedics and police and are worn when high visibility is needed. At these times, various officials are assigned different colors depending on their function. The normal color scheme is blue for police, red for firefighters, green for paramedics and orange for officials of the DOT.
Economy vests are handed out when there is some sort of special event, they are worn by people directing traffic or providing security. These vests, in orange, lime and yellow are usually marked with a generic job description rather than the name of the company, marking such as “staff” and “security” is common on these vests as they can be used for many other events.
Safety vests and overalls in all classes are available from safety Basement. Some of these vests are insulated and water resistant, all are high visibility.
