Make Up Artist Tips for a Natural Look

Getting the perfect healthy makeup look can be hard.   You may think you have the best application methods and shades then you find your skin looks dull and your makeup a little cakey.  There are a few tried and true tips and tricks that makeup artists swear by to help you acheve that natural glow, no fuss look.

When it comes to makeup less is better.  A makeup artist will tell you that you need to start with having a great skin care routine.  You should always remove your makeup at night so your skin can breathe.  Using a general face cleanser may not clean all the makeup off your face.  A makeup artist will use a make up wipe first to remove the bulk of the make up then follow up with a skin specific cleanser.  Using toners and astringents depend on your skin type.  Make sure to moisturize the skin, even if you are oily.  Cleansing agents and some makeup can be drying to the skin, you need to replace that moisture.  Best thing to do is visit a make up counter or spend some time in the drug store finding the products for you.

After your moisturizer has had a moment to soak in applying a primer can help to smooth the face allowing your makeup to look smooth and flawless.  Sometimes makeup can settle in fine lines and wrinkles causing you to look dull and older, a primer can fill in those areas allowing you a fresh look.

Another tip from the pros, your foundation should match your neck not your hand.  If you have a foundation color slightly lighter or darker always blend your foundation down the neck and over your ears and even behind your ears especially if you plan to wear your hair up.  It’s a great idea to do this even when you have the perfect match, you will look more even when you do this.

A makeup artist will tell you to always set your cream or liquid products with a setting powder.  BEWARE of translucent powder.  Translucent when photographed will appear as a white cast over your face.  Apply a tinted powder and with a light hand.  Setting your cream products will help your make up stay in place and last longer.

When applying your blush, don’t bring the blush in to your nose.  You should keep your blush to the apples of your cheeks and sweep up and back to your hairline.  You can take a extra step and contour your cheeks first with a powder several shades darker than you would use and apply this to the hollows of your cheeks (under the cheekbones) back into the hair line, on your temples and along your jawline.  This will sculpt your face and give you a little more dimension but always blend blend blend.  You want your make up to look natural.

Last make up tip from given from a makeup artist is to take a good look at your makeup, blend out any harsh lines or unevenness and add a little gloss to those lips. Lips can make you look healthy in an instant.
