Because of the severe problems that can arise, hazardous goods shipping is not done by many couriers and takes a lot of extra precautions. There are many penalties that can be associated with shipping your dangerous goods if they are not shipped properly, so knowing the correct rules is mandatory.
Responsibility
It is the responsibility of the person shipping the goods to ensure that declarations, labeling and packaging is appropriate and correct. In some cases, items may be considered to be dangerous, though they are not hazardous. For example, chemicals are dangerous, but they are not a hazardous item and may still be shipped. However, documentation will still be required that shows the items are not restricted.
If you fail to declare your packages correctly, your items will be delayed or stopped from being sent altogether. In some cases, you could risk high fines or even jail time if you knowingly ship items that are hazardous without the proper requirements.
It is also the responsibility of the shipper to ensure that the items can be shipped by air or if they require shipping by boat. An international courier will be able to use both forms of shipping, but the shipper must specify. The shipper is also required to identify, classify, mark, pack, label and document the items properly according to the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, along with any government regulations in the shipper’s country and the destination country.
Classes
There are nine classes of hazardous goods and you must properly class the items you are shipping. The classes include, from one to nine respectively, explosives, gas, flammable liquids, flammable solids, oxidizing substances, infectious and poisonous substances, radioactive materials, corrosives and miscellaneous substances.
Miscellaneous substances can include asbestos, life-saving devices, dry ice, substances hazardous to the environment, machines with combustion engines, polymeric beads, magnetized materials, anesthetics and items that contain noxious properties.
Guarantees
The only hazardous goods that are guaranteed to be shipped include magnetized materials, Class 7 materials and dry ice. Not all other classes of hazardous goods can be guaranteed to ship when you require them. That being said, shipments can occur under certain conditions and with certain restrictions. You will need to contact your courier to find out more about those conditions and restrictions.
In most cases, no matter what you have to ship, it will be possible. However, you may need to wait for specific days, months, weather conditions and other conditions so that your items cannot be sent and received at specific times.
Hazardous goods shipping is a delicate process. Fastway Worldwide Express India can handle these items and ship them for you in almost every case.
