If you have a passion for working with your hands, a mind for the science of textile and fiber construction, properties and colors and a creative flair, then you may be interested in earning a fiber arts degree in our art school. A fiber arts degree gives you a solid background for many career options. It is also a wise choice if you simply are interested in the fiber arts for your own gain of knowledge.
A fiber arts program includes courses in which you will learn about the plant, animal and synthetic fibers and their properties. You will learn about the construction of different types of fabrics from those fibers, including the properties of different fabric construction styles. You may be surprised to discover that there is a lot of science involved in how a piece of fabric stretches based on what fiber it is made from and the technique used to make it.
Our fiber arts program also includes the science of dyeing fibers. You will learn about different dyeing techniques, methods, and materials. Whether you plan to make abstract art or use your degree in the fiber arts to start your own clothing label, you have come to the right place. Graduates from our program have gone on to have successful careers that personally and professionally satisfied them. Our faculty offers support, and there are many opportunities for internships and fellowships throughout the Chicago area as well as in other cities with our alumni.
