Different Methods Used During Concrete Demolition

There are many methods that can be used during demolition that depend on the location, reason for the demolition, the building materials used and waste disposal method. It is important that you hire a firm that carries out environment impact assessment before starting the demolition. This enables proper preparation to be done by establishing safety measures to avoid accidents. Below are some of the methods used during Concrete Demolition:

Crane and Ball
Crane and ball is the oldest mode of demolition ever used. It uses a wrecking ball that has much weight that enables demolishing of masonry and concrete structures. The ball is swung towards the concrete structure being demolished. Below are limitations of using the ball and crane method:

  • There is some extra task of removing rebar in concrete structures.
  • This method is harmful to the environment as it produces dust, noise and dangerous vibrations.
  • Ball and crane method is limited in some buildings because of their size.
  • There is a danger when the ball misses the target that results in overloading the crane.
  • Not anyone who can operate the ball and crane as it requires an experienced and skilled crane operator.

High Reach Arm
This is a traditional method used to demolish structures. This type of demolition is done using a base machine such as an excavator. These types of machines can be used with other tools to make them more efficient in bringing down of structures. There are other secondary operations that need additional machinery such as crunching of materials.

Implosion
Implosion is a method that is used to destroy objects by squeezing or collapsing them from inwards. This method of demolition is used mostly in urban areas to bring down large buildings. To have a successful demolition, a structured plan must be well studied to understand the main section that supports the building.

Selective demolition
This type of Concrete Demolition consists of recycling and re-using the materials. It does not limit falling of walls, excavating of floors, ceilings, exterior and interior components. It helps in recovering the maximum amount of reusable and recyclable resources in a cost-effective and safe method.
