How To Make Alkaline Water

Although alkaline ionized water is usually dispensed from a machine attached to the tap, there are other ways to accomplish a similar feat. Let’s have a look at ways that you can make alkaline water at home.

Lemon and Lime:

A glass of lukewarm tap water with a fresh lemon squeezed into it has an alkalizing effect, even though the juice is acidic. The reason for it alkaline ability is that the fruit is low in sugar and rich in minerals. It is best to take a glass of lemon water when you first get out of bed in the morning. It is a great way to hydrate, stimulate your metabolism and simply, get you moving.

This lemon water is not to be seen as a sole source of alkaline ionized water. It is inexpensive, refreshing and is a great way to start the day, but it does not provide the benefits that other methods do.

pH drops:

pH drops infuse regular water with extremely alkaline minerals, which raise the alkalinity of the water. Average tap water has a pH between 6.8 and 7.2; this is considered as neutral. When you use pH drops, you can drive the alkalinity up to between 8 and 9; which is great for drinking. They are thought to be the next-best thing to a water alkalizing machine. The great thing is that they are portable and you can get alkalized water wherever you are. On the negatives side, they are costly, and they do not filter the water at all; furthermore, although the water is alkaline, it is not providing anti antioxidants.

Alkalizing powder:

These products are not an option; they are unsafe. This is not a treatment, you are actually adding a supplement to your diet, and this can push certain nutrients way past the safe level.

Water filters:

Although these products do a good job of filtering your water, they actually reduce the mineral content so effectively; your water will be acidic rather than alkaline. They can be used in conjunction with pH drops, and you will get a reasonable result; however, the filtered water will have a pH of about 6.0 as a starting point so when you add the drops you will end up with water with a pH of 7.5 to 8, not the pH 9.5 that is recommended. Although they are effective at removing impurities from the water, they also lower the pH.

Water distillers:

Water distillers are a great way to achieve water purification. When the water is boiled and vaporized, all the harmful bacteria, nitrates and other contaminates are separated out and the condensed water is almost 100% pure. The water, as the minerals also were distilled out, has a pH of about 7 and as with water filters, you need to add pH drops to return it to alkalinity. These machines are very slow at producing alkaline ionized water and are very inefficient.
