Experience freedom of movements with a Mobility Lift

by | Mar 5, 2013 | Healthcare

Today’s technology with regards to motorized equipment has led to great advances for persons with limited mobility. People suffering from a wide range of health issues such as walking impairments or strength issues may have difficulty with basic movements such as walking or climbing. The new wheelchair or motorized mobility device has become an overnight success allowing movement at the touch of a button. There is no need to turn those heavy wheels or crawl up the steps in your home any longer. There is now a mobility lift for all your personal needs which will virtually eliminate all of these issues and restore your former independence.

A motorized scooter or electric wheelchair is generally larger than the mechanical standard version and will require a lift for movement from location to location. Many won’t fit into the back of a vehicle and must sit on the lift during travel. This requires a heavier design that meets current lift standards.

The permanent in home lift will also aide with mobility between floors. There was a time when individuals with mobility disabilities had to either be carried up and down steps or remain on one floor at all times. Carrying was not an option for many people with caregivers lacking the strength for such a difficult and demanding task. Today, modern mobility lifts have allowed these people to have a more normal life without putting a strain on those who care for them at home.

Along with all these benefits, government has determined that people with disabilities must have some form of access to public areas such as swimming pools. The standards of 2010 state that pools over 300 linear feet must have either a pool lift or sloped entry.

Lifts designed for wheelchairs must conform to various regulations and codes. These are regulated by the Federal Codes & Regulations. Add to that regulations form the state level and also the Wheelchair Lift Industry.

Industry standards have four main codes:

1     ASME A18.1 defined device functionality

2     ASME A17.5 requirements of electrical controls

3     NFPA 70 power safety requirements

4     ICC/ANSI A117.1 physical operator placement and minimum space requirements

State codes

All states have a wide variety of codes and requirements. These specifications must be addressed on a state by state level and most dealers are familiar with their state’s requirements.

As individuals begin to embrace the idea of increased mobility through motorized devices, the marketplace has exploded with numerous vendors making claims of superior quality and design. Each seems to have a great sales pitch or varied option which makes their mobility the best or most practical. Although cost is a consideration, remember a lift will have different requirements for individual needs. The specifications for an in-home lift are not the same as for a mobile lift or one permanently attached to the outside or your vehicle. Remember, mobility lifts not only move people, wheelchairs, and motorized equipment, but also are capable of meeting industrial demands in today’s ever changing market.

Today’s advanced and modern technologies should be credited for the creation of wonderful equipment and tools like Mobility Lift. Find out more about its benefits by visiting coachlift.com
